Spare the Rod

I was buying a hamburger the other day at a local fast food burger joint. The lady in front of me ordered an ice cream cone and a hamburger for her daughter.

When she handed the ice cream cone to her daughter who was about age 4, I went into shock. I said to her “My mother would have NEVER given me desert first”. She said that her little princess “loved ice cream” and was “spoiled”.

She told me that her grandmother had said out loud “I’ll take you to Burger King, later”. This put the little girl into action. She doesn’t understand the concept of time, so the mom had to take the princess to Br King or face a tantrum. It was easier to give in to keep the peace.

This is the exact behavior a whole generation has been brought up as royalty. The children are in charge. The parents are afraid to parent. These kids grow up lazy and disrespectful to everyone. No manners and no patients. They expect the whole world to cater to their every whim.

So, these kids will grow up and not respect authority. How will they survive a job? What kind of work can a bad attitude and an expectation of starting at the top get you? Too many prince and princess.

My advice is we should eat our young!
